OOAK Polymer Clay Mokume Gane Turquoise, White and Dark Gold Earrings

This earring set has been handcrafted out of polymer clay using the ancient Japanese technique of mokume gane. The colors I used for these earrings are Turquoise, White, Dark Gold, and Beige. First I condition all the colors of the clay. Then I stack the clay in specific layers and use different shaped cutters, embed tools and found objects to create the unique textures and designs. I recombine, compress and carefully shave thin slices to reveal the dramatic color patterns. I take the shavings and layer them on top another piece of clay to create a veneer. Then I create a textured piece of clay which becomes the back of each piece. Then I stack the two pieces and carefully cut out the shapes and bake. After baking comes the sanding, smoothing and finishing. These earrings measure 2.5" including the hoops.
