Mokume Gane - Mia Statement Earrings - Turquoise, Gold, Brown, and Pearl #3

This earring set has been handcrafted out of polymer clay using the ancient Japanese technique of mokume gane. The colors that I used are Turquoise Pearl, Gold, White, and Brown. First I condition the clay. I stack the clay in specific layers then use different shaped cutters, embed tools and found objects to create the unique textures and designs. I recombine, compress and carefully shave thin slices to reveal the dramatic color patterns. I take the shavings and layer them on top another piece of clay to create a veneer. Then I create a textured piece of clay which becomes the back of each piece. Then I stack the two pieces and carefully cut out the shapes and bake. After baking comes the sanding, smoothing and finishing. The Earrings measure approximately 2.25" including the hoops.
